Back Home

There's no phrase I dread hearing more from a client.

As in: "Back home, my therapist does x-y-z."

"Back home, my gal (yes, he said GAL) puts eucalyptus oil on a tissue and lays it over the bridge of my nose, clears my sinuses right up."

"Back home, my masseuse digs right in with her elbows."

"Back home, my massage only costs half what I paid here!"

Okay, enough already!

I understand that you are used to a certain kind of massage, that you are used to a specific therapist, and a (usually) much lower price. BUT, you're NOT BACK HOME, are you?! This is the Las Vegas Strip, where everything is more expensive, and just because you paid more doesn't mean I'm going to do a fan dance with a bunch of feathers, or escort you to the treatment room walking on my hands.

And it would be really nice if you gave me the courtesy of a chance, at least, to show you what I can do. Without being hampered by your expectations.

Thank you, that is all.

I suppose it could be worse. My aunt's husband died, and she remarried a guy who's wife had died, and he always told her "my first wife made the green beans like blah blah blah." Everything was an attempt to cow her into doing crap like the first wife had, rather than for them to savor the journey of exploring their new relatioship.

Maybe when someone says that next time, you can quip "Wow, that's neat. Now I'll try to give you some things to tell your gal back home."

That ain't a bad idea, Phlegmmy.
Usually I'm too frustrated by that time.
I gave a guy a massage a while back, and he told me everything was great (I ask during and after).
When he was checking out at the front desk, and the receptionist asked him how everything had been, he shrugged and said, "I can get better at home at half the price."
Sheesh.

Sorry about your aunt. She shoulda retaliated with, "And my first husband was MUCH better (and bigger!) in bed than you!"
Probably the wrong generation to spout that, huh?
