Reason #3,468 I love living in a small town...

Marvin the Mechanic. Who figured out what the other bozos didn't, tightened the offending, screeching belt, AND cleaned my corroded battery connections. While discussing his pets, the flower beds he has around his house which his wife is working on today, and good places in town to get good, cheap food. And booze.

Then charged me ten bucks for it.

Life is good.

Exactly!

Sounds like Kenny the Mechanic out here. $30 to replace a fuel filter that was being particularly frustrating, changed a valve on my fuel rail for no charge, and has talked me through a couple other fixes. And I get to play with Jake The Dog while he works on my truck. Small towns rule!

OMG, Loki! Marvin has Minnie the Cat! A lovely black cat with stunning green eyes...very friendly, too.

There was something wrong with our car? O_O;;

LOL, Silver. Don't you remember the screeching sound it was making every time we started it?

THey get a bad rap in general, but there are some mechanics out there who are decent, honest people. My dad is one of them, and I couldn't be prouder. Glad you found one!

Thanks, Phlegmstress. Too bad your dad doesn't live out my way, I'd only take my car to him. :)

To help you enjoy small-town life all the more, here's my recent tae...
- My 5yr old truck's steering is getting sluggish, so I take it to the local shop: upper and lower steering shafts are going, a total of $1000 to replace everything. After all the screwball fixes I've had to put into this truck, I take it to the dealership to ask the m*WTF* is going on with this disaster of a vehicle.
They look it over, and find almost $1500 worth of stuff that needs fixing, *AND THEY CHARGE ME $50 FOR THE INSPECTION. The dealership charged me $50 to tell me what a piece of crap my truck is, without actually FIXING ANYTHING.

WTF? Is it not still under warranty?!
Would they have waived the fee if you'd gone ahead with the repairs?

I'm sorry about your troubles, SCI-FI. :(

Yup. Small towns RULE. For many reasons.

Buck, you got that right, Sir. Oh, and there are two RV parks within a few miles of here. Just sayin'...

1) No, it is out of warranty. (And, true to form, it is disintegrating.) 2) They would have waived the fee if I did the repairs there -- but they charge double the rate of the local Meineke. You'd think when I blew up on the phone about all the failures and said 'WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS TRUCK?" to the receptionist, that the dealership might have waived the fee anyway, or at least *warned me what the fee would be* when I dropped the truck off.

In short, I can't afford this truck which I have already paid off....

Well, shit. My car is paid off, and the warranty is gone when I put 100,000 miles on it. I'm at 85,000. It'll prolly go belly up as soon as the odometer ticks over to 100K. I'm screwed!

You obviously need a new vehicle. And fuck the truck!
