Starbucks...squeeee...ooh, look! Shiny!

I got to the NY-NY last night after a busy day at my "real" job. My last three massages I was literally struggling to stay awake, and falling asleep while GIVING a massage is (naturally) grounds for immediate dismissal. I was exhausted, and it was mainly my own damn fault for staying up late chatting with a friend the night before, so no violins, please!

Anyway, my supervisor Christine was still at the casino, our shifts overlap by an hour, and I told her that despite the mega-dose of vitamin C and the extra vitamin B-complex I took earlier in the day, I didn't think I'd make it through my whole shift.
She suggested Starbucks, and was happy to treat me. Now, don't think I've been living under a rock or anything, but I've never had a Starbucks coffee. I don't LIKE coffee, and I've been trying, with mixed results, to completely give up all caffeine for the past two years. But needs must, and all that. So off to Starbucks we went.

OMG. I had a plain coffee, a "tall" (which is really a small), and I even had the barista make it half coffee, half steamed milk, so it would be somewhat diluted. It didn't matter. Within minutes of drinking that, that, crack, I was bouncing off the walls. Babbling a mile a minute, and hiccuping like I had drunk alcohol. That's what I felt like, that I was a little buzzed. People were laughing at me! But I wasn't tired anymore. Oh, no, definitely not tired. I was so not tired that I was singing along to all the music playing in the casino, and I didn't walk so much as prance to the beat, with hips swishing/swaying all the way. I'm sure it must have been entertaining, but who cares? I wasn't dragging my ass anymore!

I had a very successful night, my most lucrative yet as a matter of fact. Should I risk the effects again and have Starbucks tonight as well? Hmmmmmm. Must ponder.

Starbucks is the thing I miss the most about not living in the city. There was a Starbucks store on the ground floor of the building where I worked in SFO and I dropped ten bucks there every freakin' day... at the very least. And I always seek 'em out whenever I leave P-Ville for civilization.

Extra-added attraction: they sell some VERY good music in most of their stores; their compilations are among the very best if you're just dipping your toe into a particular genre. Great stuff!

Last: A life without caffeine? UNimaginable for me. I "do" a 12-cup pot of coffee every single day. Always. NO exceptions. ;-)

Holy crap! That's a lot of money.
I'll take your word for it about the music...I don't know if I can risk going into another Starbucks store to check it out!
And good lord, a whole pot of coffee, every day?! You'd find me twitching and drooling in some corner, giggling helplessly, if I drank that much! Not a pretty picture, trust me.

I won't give Starbucks the time of day. It's mostly a corporate statement on my part. I can get a better latte, with more flavor choices, at the local stand, and the gals their remember my name.

Although usually, I just prefer a good old cup of home brewed joe.

Buckskins, any port in a storm! It was an emergency, and they were there. See, all coffee pretty much tastes the same to me, so it really didn't matter.

I don't like coffee either. I wake up with a Coke Zero.
BUT...I do like Lattes and Cappucinos. I like to cinnamon and Splenda Starbucks have. Their Hot Chocolate is pretty awesome, too.

I haven't had any soda since February of last year. Go, me. ;) Diet Coke used to be my caffeinated beverage of choice, but tea and the occasional coffee took its place. Now I'm up the creek, what with not wanting any caffeine anymore. Oh, well. Sometimes I stay ON the wagon, sometimes I fall off.

The baristas at my local Starbucks in SFO knew my name (and I theirs, although it was easy for me: they wore name tags) and gave me LOTS of freebies, too. I had a GREAT relationship with those guys and gals.

Here's another oddity for ya, Christina... sometimes I'll wake up early (like 0500 or so), make the blog rounds, finish the coffee, and then take a two-hour nap around 1000. It's the truth... Swear to God.

Amazing. You must have built up a tremendous tolerance for caffeine. I can't imagine being able to do that. I literally dilute coffee with hot water and/or soy milk, and it STILL affects me. Buck Pennington: Man of Steel!

Caffeine has that effect on me too, but I need it for school. I think Starbuck's was a cute idea, but it's just too expensive, so I go get McDonals's mediam sugar free vanilla iced coffee for $1.79. I don't think it's terribly strong, but it gets me through a 5 hour evening class.

Yeah, I hear you Zelda. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
I prefer 7-11 coffee, that's actually palatable for some odd reason.

More like Steel WOOL. ;-)

If it gets you through the night, then go for it! Don't drink too much, though.

Tally, don't worry! I don't like it very much...:(
