So, is it only in Vegas, or do ALL WalMarts check customers' receipts as said customers leave the store? I really want to know. Because, frankly, it pisses me off to have to show some old dude my receipt, so he can scribble some hieroglyphics on it with a highlighter, to prevent store security from tackling my ass on the way to the parking lot, when I'm just trying to get home with my pantiliners and tomatoes!
Okay, rant over.

They only do that here at Christmas time. Wow.......
Here, they only check your receipt when you have items that are not in plastic bags, like cases of soda, cat litter, and other "large" things.
See, I was wondering about that. It used to be only at Christmas time here, too. But the past year or so, they check EVERY TIME. So frustrating, because I always automatically put my receipt in my wallet after I pay. Then I have to dig it out again when we get to the door. Argh. One of these days I'll remember just to stick it in my pocket or keep it in my hand and save a bunch of time.
I don't remember them doing that here...
I'm not in favor of causing a hassle for the old dude at the door (since he's probably getting minimum wage for maximum hassle already) but I'm the type to blow by someone like that and if they want to chase me down outside the store, I'll gladly show them the receipt and tell them that I'll never shop in their shitty store again if they don't trust me.
But, that's just me. I'm an asshole.
Tally, that's because you live in the "Heartland" of America. People just don't DO bad stuff there, right? ;)
Jim, I'm always polite to the greeters, but you're right, I do feel insulted that I'm not trusted.
I have a friend that works there and they started it at Christmas here and decided to continue it when they see items not in a bag. They had a significant reduction in theft at that store. If a thief knows he must stop and show the receipt then it becomes a deterrent.
Mike
Right...No one does anything bad in the Heartland...Is that a joke or something? Because if no one did anything bad in the heartland, I wouldn't hear on the news every morning, "There has been another robbery," or "There's been a robbery. Two people dead." I even heard one time that a clerk gave into demands and still was shot and killed for no apparent reason.
Hey, Mike! Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately, every WalMart I go to now checks my receipt, even though I almost always only have bags. Maybe I look like a shoplifter? Who knows...
Tally, did you not see my ";", indicating a sarcastic wink? OF COURSE I was joking, silly!
Nope... they don't do that here in P-Ville. Unless the detector goes off, which has happened to me exactly once in six years... but I had my receipt and all was well. I was still half-pissed off, tho. The Clueless Clerk didn't "debug" the hi-value item in my bag... thus alarm bells, buzzers, and various other thingies going off like the frickin' 4th of July... I'm surprised there weren't Roman Candles and such, too. MOST embarrassing, that was.
Yup, that's embarrassing, Buck! Hate it when that happens. But I really hate having to show my receipt every, frickin' time, too.
I've only been into Walmart twice in the last year. I know it's cheaper but I hate the place. They were checking people that had whole carts full of stuff, but not people with just a little bag of small items.
I hate it, too, Brigid. Unfortunately, my wallet forces me to shop there, the bastard!
