Newsweek

I saw the cover of Newsweek as I was waiting in the checkout line at my local Smith's.
I did a double take as I read the caption, and immediately snagged an issue and added it to my groceries.

Here's a link to the article.

I really enjoyed reading the article, and have to say I totally identify with some of the ladies interviewed. I felt no bond or attachment to the twins I carried, and had no depression whatsoever. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, if they'd let me. Unfortunately, gestational diabetes put the kibosh on that. Here's my version of the cover photo:

I wonder why I wasn't interviewed?
Not that I'd have been able to talk!

I have a friend who was a surrogate, too. I would never be able to do that (for several reasons), but I think it's neat.

It was a great experience, that's for sure! I just can't get over all the people (men, even!) who insisted that I must feel bad, be depressed about giving up the babies. Uh, no, actually I'm fine. Dopes. The whole point is that the babies weren't related to me at all. I made the analogy that I was a bus-driver, and the babies the passengers. After nine months, when we reached our "destination", the passengers would disembark and I'd wave goodbye as they continued their journey. My daughter (who was in the delivery room with me and held my hand) was much more emotional than me. She got teary-eyed when she got to hold the baby boy. She's a good kid!

I'm with Squeaky on this one - thank the goddesses some women are willing to carry babies for those who can't for whatever reason. I think if you can do that and be happy and comfortable, then you will be richly blessed for helping out others.

Thanks, Phlegmmy! I'm hoping I did get some good karma, I need all the help I can get!

I think it's great! God [or whoever] Love you for helping out a couple who couldn't have passed on their genes otherwise.

It's just a shame you got the gestational diabetes and couldn't participate any longer.

Thanks, Holly!
I wonder if I went to a different agency...would they let me? But I was so lucky not to end up with some kind of shady outfit this last time, I wouldn't want to press my luck.
