I was leaving the gym just now, which happens to be located across the street and down a bit from the local high school. The marching band drumline was practicing outside, and I was instantly thrust back to Las Vegas, attending Silver's high school football games.
Good times. :)

I have seriuosly embarrassing photos of some redhead playing a clarinet in a marching band. Dad threatens to sell them to the higest bidder.
LOL- It's the 'little' things that bring up the strangest memories... :-)
Brigid, Silver and I would LOVE to see those, since her instrument is clarinet, as well!
Old NFO, yup. Especially smells!
When I hear a marching band, I am carried back to fall afternoons when the high school band would practice - we could hear them at our house. I can feel the air and see it all in my mind. It is funny that those memories are stronger than when I actually played in the marching band.
Lou, I WISH we had had marching band at my school! That would have been awesome. But since the schools in Germany have no teams, there's no need to have a marching band, not to mention the "militaristic" overtones of the uniforms and marching, so very undesirable to Germans in recent decades...
Our high school marching band was one of the best (if not the best) in the Country. It seemed like half the damn school was in the Band. I was not. (never was musically inclined)
I did try clarinet for a while, but I stunk and always preferred sports anyways.
So no picking on the band geeks at your school? Awesome. :)
Not everyone is talented at everything, obviously. None of my kids are athletic in any way. (Neither am I, for that matter, except maybe racquet sports.)
