When I moved here in 2001, after the horrid winter I had in Maryland with three elementary-school-aged kids, a big motivator for me was moving to a place where my kids would never miss a day of school because of the weather.
Well, at least I have the day off, too...

Blondie, but Florida has BUGS (and lots of 'em), and hurricanes. And the HUMIDITY? OMG.
I lived in Florida when I was a kid, and except for the cockroaches (phobia-city), none of the above bothered me one bit. Now it's a different story...;)
While I hate winter, but put up with it as my price for autumn in New England (which is my favorite season) until this year it at least brought the possibility of snow days. We teachers generally love them as much as the kids do.
Although I loved delays more because I could go back to sleep for an hour or two and not have to work an extra day at the end of the school year.
ANYWAYS...that was then, this is now. Now I have a newborn that I have to think about transporting in the ice and snow...and the mere idea of that has me bunkering down in my nice warm apartment with a stack of dvds, my breast pump, and a warm snuggly baby in a fleece onesie.

That's pretty much what we're doing this morning, too. It looks like most of the snow is melting away in my part of town, not sure what the rest of the valley looks like, though!
I saw your weather on the WX Channel last evening and this morning and thought... wow. But Hey! A snow day is good! As long as you don't have to get out in it, of course. Except to play.

Absolutely, Buck! It was my day off regardless, but I canceled/rescheduled most of the appointments I had and spent the greater part of the day in bed. Sleeping. Bliss. Now I only have to worry about being able to fall asleep tonight!
I do have a meeting to attend in an hour or so, plus I plan on hitting the gym, but by this time I'm assuming everything has melted away, so I should be fine.
Jon, you are not kidding! Luckily the campus has all kinds of tunnels and enclosed walkways so the students can avoid going outside as much as possible.

kvegas911, the answer is "Not very much!" Las Vegas doesn't have the equipment to deal with that kind of snowfall, I'm so glad I could stay home, because I know it was a madhouse out there.
