Shamelessly stolen from my own Facebook...

GODDAMN, PEOPLE! Turning yourself into old shoe leather is NOT attractive. Is it some kind of body dismorphic disorder that people who obsessively tan can look at themselves in the mirror and say, "Damn! I look fiiiiiiine. All youthful and with a healthy glow...thanks to my TAN!" when in reality they look like hairless Shar-peis?

Because I'm tired and lazy. :D

There's a ladythat works at a restaurant I eat lunch at on occassion with coworkers. By her eye color and what likes natural hair color I'd say she is Northern European descent.

Her skin is the color of my boots. Or my rolltop desk. I honestly didn't think it was possible to get that dark of a tan, and keep it year round.

She's going to look 85 when she's my age.

I tan, but not excessively. I just don't want to glow white! I stood next to a young lady today that I swore would have started to sparkle in the sun, had there been any, she was so pale! I just can't do that!

After an encounter with a skinny, over-tanned woman I turned to Mrs. Gizmo and said "I was thinking of Slim Jims."

Brigid, the only way she won't is if it's all spray-tan, but generally spray-tan doesn't get one that dark!
I think it's an addiction...

Blondie, you live in FLORIDA, you need to tan a bit just to protect yourself! Or else spend most of your day slathering 1,000,000+ SPF sunblock all over your body. Which would be hawt, now that I think about it...;)
Seriously, though, you want sparkles? That's my daughters in the sun. They GLOW. I would, too, but I'm old enough and have enough sun damage acquired when I was young and stupid that I don't.

CircuitGizmo, that's an excellent comparison! But you'd be surprised...their skin might be tough and leathery, but it's also loose and floppy. When I massage someone like that, the skin just rolls away from me. Disturbing.

Why did I think of "City Slickers" when I read this post?

"He was like a saddlebag with eyes."

I have a cousin who owns her own tanning bed. Her skin looks like the inside of Joe Don Baker's belt. I can't imagine who in the hell finds that sexy.

WV: Crudozin. Her overtanned skin was covered with clumps of crudozins tucked in the wrinkles.

The only thing that made me excited about the Twilight movies was that hopefully they'd make pale skin all the rage. I swear, I'm as white as they come and on the rare occasions I reveal my legs to the sun they too are a sparkling white!

I may or may not have caused some eye damage to other people from the blazing white of my skin....

Here in Phoenix, we call such wallet-clad denizens (usually female) 'the leather ladies'. They're usually from N. Scottsdale, with more money than sense. They look great at 50 yards, not so much at 50 feet.
I had a skin physician tell me once that there was no such thing as a 'healthy tan', and ANY skin discoloration from the sun was damage! But, it's a free country.

I've always found it exceedingly strange that so many people with white skin want to turn it brown. There's nothing at all the matter with brown skin, or the people who have it naturally, of course, but I've always found white people at least as attractive. And there must be lots more like me, as there are so many of us. If we weren't finding white folks attractive, we wouldn't be making new ones :-)

Was out walking on a popular walking trail and a pair of HS Girls passed me. One looked healthy and attractive, he friend looked like Brigid's proverbial roll-top-desk (I have one of them too, GREAT analogy)

That's an unnatural shade for a Caucasian woman, and she looked positively dreadful. She'll look like an old Catcher's mitt when she's older.

Granted I'm one to talk, sun and salt from my Pirate days has left me a tad on the leathery side.

But at least I was getting PAID to ruin my body!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who finds obsessive tanning bizarre! I feel so VALIDATED. :)

I'm with Jim (Suldog), why the fuck can't folks just accept their own skin color? I find dark skin extremely attractive, if it's the NATURAL COLOR. By a quirk of genetics, I'm paler-than-pale. My dad is half Portuguese and has black hair, brown eyes, and dark skin. I got everything from my German/Polish mother. I have one brother with skin like my own (who insists he tans easily, I think not. I think it's just that he's done that much damage to his skin over the years), and another brother who has smooth, dark(er) skin. Go figure.

Okay, off my soapbox now!
