What to do...what to do?

Hmmm. It's Friday night and the natives are restless. I know...since they loooooove doggies so much, why don't we take our three, small, obnoxious and uncontrollable brats to the dog park...even though we don't have a dog of our own!

There they will proceed to make infernal nuisances of themselves by chasing and harassing all the dogs there, and will be extremely lucky if they don't end up bitten (though if they did, of course we'd sue!)

Can you tell I'm a wee bit annoyed?!

Word of advice: If your method of dog training involves treats, DON'T practice at the dog park! Even if you want to show off your dog's awesome down-stay. You'll be mobbed by dogs wanting treats (including my two greedy-guts), and you'll piss everyone off whose dog isn't as well-trained as yours (also including mine, unfortunately.)

Note to self: Wow, blogging totally works as a procrastination device...I really should be writing a cause-and-effect essay right now. *sigh* There's always tomorrow...at least until midnight, when the essay's due!

Does your dog park have any RULES?

I have never been to a dog park that allowed children under 12 inside, let alone to run rampant harrassing peoples' dogs. (And even if the park rules did allow dogs, the park patrons would have something to say about children running and screaming at a DOG park - they do not belong their and they rile up the dogs which can result in dog fights and yes, dog bites!)

And I've never been to a dog park that didn't have a clear disclaimer somewhere that you are not to bring any foods into the park, including dog treats. Again, easy way to start a fight.

If you're gonna train using any kind of reward (treat, ball, toy, tug), do it OUTSIDE the fence. None of these items belong INSIDE a dog park because they cause fights and resource guarding.

Geez.

I would be annoyed, too. This is exactly why we don't go to dog parks. (But I've said that before.)

I'll have to take a pic of the sign on the dog park gate and post it here. I think it just says you assume all risks by entering...it should say: Abandon all Hope, Ye who Enter Here!

Oh, and unfortunately, the dog park is the only place my dogs can really run.

omg - infuriating for people to bring their brats to the dog park to harrass the animals. I hope they caught a lot of shit from the dog owners.

Not really, Phlegmmy. People just put up with it. The only thing people occasionally object to is when someone brings a very large dog into the small dog run.
