The display on my new alarm clock is so MOTHERFUCKING huge and bright, I felt like Frodo all night long.
I could see it with my eyes closed. Heh, it's like my own personal red-light district!
Kinda ironic, since I got rid of my previous alarm clock yesterday because it had the annoying habit of randomly buzzing right on the edge of audible range...
Sometimes you just can't win.

LOL, I'm still using an old Sony I bought in the 1980s... Works, loud enough and I can reach across and turn that sucker off without even waking up... But yeah, I know what you mean- Some hotels have 'beacons' rather than clocks!
I have a moon alarm clock so the light is pretty significant but I usually just turn it around so that it faces a dresser…
I don’t really use the clock to wake me up though. I use my iPod as an alarm but, before that, I sometimes use the iPod to help me sleep with my relaxation playlist -- a win-win situation.
Get your hands on a scrap of automotive window tint - the darkest you can find, and apply it to the plastic lens on the front of the clock. That should tame down the light quite a bit. I bet that a local tint shop would give you a piece. If you batted your eyelashes at them, they may even apply it for you.
Michael, the ever clever and inventive Mrs. Sci-Fi created a little shutter for my clock. It consists of a black, nylon stocking and a piece of cardboard. When I want to check the time, I can just flip it up, otherwise it completely blocks the display. Basically my clock looks like it's about to rob a convenience store, but I LOVES IT.
