Weirdest Electronic Highway Sign

STOP HARMFUL INSECTS

KEEP FIREWOOD LOCAL

WTF? Only in Massachusetts...

Not only in Massachusetts. The sign is probably referring to the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species of beetle that's been killing off ash trees all over the Midwest and Canada.

Nick beat me to it. It's common knowledge in Minnesota that one should buy firewood up at "the cabin", as opposed to bringing it with you from the cities in order to stop those little buggers.

I understand the sentiment, I just am boggled that it's the message on a highway sign. NOT what I was expecting to read, over and over again on my travels today.

It's because of the Asian Longhorn Beetle.

Its cause of the campers coming in for the holidays, and bring in firewood...

Probably due to the Asian longhorn beetle.

Those highway signs, but mostly with federal money, are a monumental waste of time and money.

They were supposed to be used only for highway emergency messages, but apparently someone has decided that we can only get out money's worth if they always say something. Even if that something is meaningless.

Come to think of it, we have dispatchers like that too.
