Traveling with cats...

...without A/C, since it decided to break just as we crossed the border into Ohio. I guess it could be worse, the A/C could have decided to die while we were still in TX or OK!

The next day or so until we reach our destination should be interesting...

Welcome to Ohio! If the AC just petered out without drama or knocking noises, there's a reasonably good chance you just ran out of freon--$20 at Walmart and 10 minutes to fix, at least for a week or two.

Sevesteen, I took the car to the dealership last week because it was making a growling noise. They ASSURED me it was NOT the A/C, even though my mechanic thought it was. They told me it was the damper pulley making noise, that it was only annoying, not dangerous. And of course, the moment the sound ceased, the A/C was kaput. I intend to call the dealership tomorrow and give them what-for, since they obviously don't know what the fuck they're doing. I even TOLD them the sound stopped whenever I turned the A/C off, and they pooh-poohed me. Fuckers.

Thanks, GFA!

That's why I don't go to dealerships. When I hand over my key and later my credit card I want it to be a man with permanent grease stains on his mitts, not some douche in a pressed shirt, pleated pants, and a tie.

Sorry Bucky, I'll talk to you about my car about as much as I do to my florist!

On a plus side rolled down windows at highway speeds will do WONDERS to drive off the kitty-funk!

Safe travels!

From your description, it sounds to me like the A/C clutch has failed.

You can keep driving safely.

They CAN be replaced, but the dealership will probably try to sell you a new A/C unit at twice the cost of repair first.(~$500 vs. ~$1000, I'm guessing.)

Make them work for their money. ;-)

Glad you made it to your destination, with or without A/C, and without dropping any critters off at an SPCA en route!
