When I first became a libertarian (or took that name for ongoing beliefs) I read an essay (by Karl Hess) stating the U.S. public school system was nothing more than a giant baby-sitting service. I believed it then, and even more now! gfa
ZerCool, don't even get me started on the stupidity of our weights and measures.
North, it's NOT Silver, but a classmate of mine who missed an easy question on a lab test. Because she didn't know how to convert milliliters into liters.
GFA, I disagree. The opportunities for learning are there, but too many young people nowadays don't give a damn. And they need to stay off my lawn, too!
Yeah, there's no way that's me. See, it's really obvious that 2000 mL = 2 L, because "mL" = milliliters and "milli" = 1000, let alone stuff that we went over in grade school science classes talking about this stuff.
Either this person sucks at math even more than I do or they don't know their word roots. Or both.
@Christina Some of us squeaked through, so, you may be right. But, I come from a family of teachers, many of whom only longed for Summer, not interested in helping kids. But, I did have a couple. However I think they're the exception.

That's, like ... two quarts, right? ;-)
Be nice to Silver. Someday she'll be taking care of you when you are 96.
She'll keep you tied up in the closet and feed you marshmallows. But as that is better than govt health care, it will be OK.

What the fuck?!
Milli, Centi, etc. That's like grade school crap.

(LOL, and my capatcha code for this? "lingluil")
But...but... they might CRY if they got it wrong... :-( F'ed up is right!!!
The metric system! Is that old thing still around? Anyone with a dram of common sense dumped that centuries ago!
I had to teach kids at fast food places how to count change back to customers! Sad.

Recently I was teaching at a paramedic class, doing practical labs.
I handed a student a 10 ml vial of Lasix, 10mg/ml and asked her to draw up 60 mg.
She was completely baffled by the math.
I've had experiences with this sort of thing. Four experiences in the last week. I think it's a widespread mental decline.
