This is getting out of hand

I was standing in the check out line at PetSmart today, when I noticed this, priced at $2.99 for a small bottle:

"Our Hero" fortified drinking water for dogs.

Now, I'm absolutely bonkers about my puppehs. I buy them premium food, make sure they have plenty of fresh water to drink, am religious about all their check-ups and vaccinations...heck, I even brush their teeth (almost) daily!

But fortified bottled water, at $2.99 a pop? That's over the top and ridiculous!
I know there's almost a cult of pet-worshipers now in the U.S., but I refuse to bow at that altar. When all's said and done, they are ANIMALS. I don't even buy bottled water for myself or my kids, and if tap water is good enough for us, it's definitely good enough for my pets!

What do you think?

This is one of those products aimed at rich Yuppie dog "parents" who believe that Science Diet is a great food, a walk around the block is enough exercise for an adult Boxer, and an 8 week class at Petsmart will teach your dog all it ever needs to know.

In other words, people who just don't know better.

On a side note, it's better to be not quite religious when it comes to annual vaccinations - those can actually do more harm than good.

Rilly? They do their bordatella every six months, they got the three-year-rabies thing...they get, what? Parvo and Distemper yearly too, right?
Could the vaccinations make them sick? I know Parvo is a HUGE problem here in the valley.

Give me a break. I am sure it is the same as the water in my tap and that will work just fine.

My soon to be sister-in-law used to feed her dog some expensive organic dog food but at some point money was tight and she could not buy the organic stuff. She used to say that the dog would only eat the organic stuff and then she was forced to buy the other stuff and her dog loved it!

The point is this, a dog is a dog, the food and water is not so important as long as it is a good quality dog food, it does not have to be something special. Keep mans best friend healthy with the vet visits etc and they will be fine.

After all these are the creatures that will eat their own poop lol.

I think that if you don't buy something for yourself or your family, you shouldn't buy it for your pets. Absolutely right.

Good Lord! It's water with vitamins and such, right? If you have to give your pets such things, buy a water filter and a bottle of multi-vitamins. Don't pay $2.99 for something you can put together yourself for pennies.

I saw a similar product in the grocery store just this weekend. I lol'd when I saw the peanut butter flavored water. Really? The pups can drink out of the faucet just like I do!

The whole bottled water thang just irritates the HELL out of me... I don't care if it's for humans, animals, or frickin' ALIENS. I could see the point if one lived in Bangladesh or somewhere where the water supply isn't safe... but otherwise? Meh.

On (sorta) the same subject... I was half-assed watching some woman who wrote a book about melamine in dog food (a serious problem, that, don't get me wrong) on C-SPAN this weekend... and some retard gets up during the Q&A period and goes on about how she feeds her CAT a vegan diet, and is this OK? The auteur responds with "sure, that's OK..."

NOT! Last I looked, cats are carnivores, right? I'm betting this poor misguided woman's kitty is a mouser-supreme, what with having to live on sprouts and shit, otherwise...

/rant.

Sorry about that.

I think anybody that buys bottled water for any animal should be taken out to the woods and shot.

I LIKE it when everyone agrees with me! It makes me feel special...*blushes*.

Anthony, not only will they eat their own poop, they'll eat everyone else's, too!

Suldog, I think just about every dog food out there has the proper vitamins in it. The designer water has specific uses, I guess. Protein, post-exercise, for older dogs, etc. Like Mauser*girl said (and I'm paraphrasing), it's for pet owners with more money than sense.

Kathy, thanks for visiting. Tap water for the win!

Buck, I met a lady at the dog park who feeds all her pets (cats and dogs) a vegan diet. I find this cruel and abusive.
I suppose if they get their protein from soy, or whatever, it has the same effect? I really don't have a clue...anybody? Mauser*Girl? Bueller?

Trashman, I like the way you think.

Barkley is spoiled but good grief, bottled water for dogs?! He feels special when I get the Milkbone brand treats by the tub rather than the generic ones (and the occasional small end of a piece of bacon).

Brigid, dogs are notorious for drinking out of the toilet bowl...why do they suddenly rate bottled, enhanced water?
Barkley is a very lucky dog...:)

This is ridiculous! I agree with Trashman.

those dogs deserve the best that is available...i would pay $50 a can of water for my dog if it made some one rich, oh i mean my dog happy

Tally, I'm glad you agree.

Putz, you crack me up!
