Okay, for those of you who get tired of my bragging on my daughter, Silver, it's time for you to go look at some lolcats, or something.
There, now that all the haters are gone, I can gloat copiously.
My daughter Silver, who had her first day as a senior in high school today, has the following classes this year:
AP English Literature and Composition
US Government Honors
AP Japanese IV
Physics Honors
Algebra II and Trigonometry Honors
Zoology Honors
Advanced Band
(one period as Teacher's Aide, her schedule doesn't really permit any other class, she tried!)
She was recommended for AP Chemistry, but the scheduling of the AP classes precluded her taking it (it conflicted with her Japanese class.)
Okay, done bragging now.
This is also her last Marching Band season, at least the last one I'll be able to watch. She fully intends on being in her college marching band as well.
I'm so happy! Now I just have to worry about PAYING for college...for both her and myself!

Start today looking at band schollarships.
but they dont call you.
ya got to go looking for them
Thanks, Putz! Yeah, she's super busy!
She has marching band rehearsal twice a week from five thirty to eight thirty PM, plus National Honor Society meetings, which will be starting up again soon, plus she volunteers at the library every Sunday. She's a good kid, what can I say?
Bo, thanks for stopping by! The college she wants to go to has tiny band scholarships, like a few hundred dollars. Believe me, I've done my research! Scholarships.com is going to be very familiar to me over the coming months...:)
awesome! I took all those honors classes when I wazs in school, plus dual enrollment for college as well! (college and hs at the same time!) I have a link for Silver. It is a bunch of T-shirts I bet she'll love! I did!
Sincerely,
Blondefabulous....another band geek from 6th through College!

You have EVERY right to brag, Christina.
One question... what does "AP" stand for?
And... it does my heart good to see Nihongo offered in an American high school. That's way-cool. My ex- graduated with an undergrad degree in Modern Languages - Japanese. She was only the third such person to do so in her university's history (back in '78)... and it's a well-known school, as well.
Thanks, BF! Silver is sleeping right now, but I'll make sure she checks out the link tomorrow after school!
Buck - "AP" means "Advanced Placement"; it's basically college-level material (or it should be), and at the end of the class they take an AP test, the results of which are sent directly to the college of their choice. Depending on how the student does on this test, he/she is awarded college credit. Saves time and money!
Oh, and Silver worships anything related to Japan. Not only is her HS the only one in Clark County to offer Japanese (at least it was when she was a freshman), but it's a four-year-language-and-culture-program, unusual in a high school.
Good on Silver, for her love of Japan! I have a sort of love-hate relationship with Japan and its culture, but it's mostly love. It's an astounding and amazing culture, with both good and bad.
Ya know... there are foreign-exchange programs at the college level, depending on where Silver goes to school (and what sort of scholarship she gets). I met the ex- in Tokyo, when she was on one such program. Something to think about.
The Year-In-Japan program was a total immersion sort of experience for the ex-, with the possible exception of her boyfriend and future husband, who was (and is) about as red-white-and-blue as it gets... ;-)
Brilliant like her Mom, and cute and funny as well. A winning combination runs in your gene pool.
Congratulations to her for all she's accomplished, and to you for showing her the way.
*blushes*
Why thank you, Brigid! Coming from you, that's quite the compliment to both my daughter and myself.
Way to go Silver!!!!(I can't believe that nickname still sticks)
Z started middle school on Monday.
Our babies are growing up.... sniffle...You should be very proud.
Oh, Anonymous One! Isn't it amazing how time flies...Z's in MIDDLE SCHOOL NOW?! Holy crap.
Yup, she's still Silver the Evil Chao (not "chair", lol).
I AM very proud, thanks...:)
Congrats to you and your daughter....
That's a really challenging schedule. Be sure to keep an eye on when she needs to be told to take an afternoon off. The last thing she wants to do is burn out in Mid-April, which happened to me senior year of college. But at the same time, doing what you enjoy and making the most of hs is vital and I wish I had done more of that instead of the disaffected uber feminist band geek loner thing I was trying to pull off.
As a first generation college kid, I'll say that while I wish I wasn't going to be paying off student loans when my daughter (who is -9.5 weeks old..still in utero) I don't regret for a second the school I chose or the choices I made in college (and don't freak--it wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't done half a doctoral program before dropping out to do a masters in teaching).
Silver is erudite, accomplished and bodes well for the future of NASA. Kick ass, Silver, kick ass!!!
Thanks, DN! I vetoed her getting a job. While the experience undoubtedly would benefit her, it would just be too much on her plate.
She loves taking naps...:)
I really hope she gets some scholarships...
Phlegmmy, Silver is overwhelmed by your praise. Thank you!
