The more you brag...

about how you were a sooper-seekrit "special sniper" for the USAF (!?!) after your four-year stint as a radar tech weenie, the less I'll believe you. Oh, and if you add that it was "off the books", that they offered you the gig because you were handy with guns, and that if you had me in your sights at 1700 yards, "[I'd] be gone", I'll believe you even less, if that's possible.

I'm just surprised that my ueber-mega-mondo eye-rolling didn't cause any tectonic plate shifting.

Read "Stolen Valor" for how pervasive this scenario is. My sister's husband told many tall tales, until I got his service record. He claimed to have served "two tours" in Vietnam. The closest he got to Vietnam was San Diego. (Public information, by the way, but unless a waiver is signed no medical records.)

If there is a more shameful pose, I don't know of it. Stolen Valor indeed!

Every one who serves in the armed services contributes, even if you are a supply clerk. It is a noble thing to do what you do. But don't tell everyone you were something you were not.

That would be sister's former husband, by the way. What a jerk

He sounds like SUCH a prize! /sarcasm

Yep, this is exactly why the gentleman in question was quick to say that his official record would only show his initial four-year tour of service. His illustrious sniper career was strictly off-the-books. Pardon me while I roll my eyes some more.

Oh, I get them in Concealed Carry Handgun class. Had one last month. Told me that he consulted for TSA and multiple Sheriff offices.

Internet expert on running a gun. I know. I had him for 8 hours.

He said he was only taking the class for fun. Really? 8 hours in the classroom and 120 bucks off the hip for fun?

His definition of fun is vastly different than mine.

I did finally ask him if the navy blue sweater vest was issued because that is the only reason I would wear it!

Yeah. They are out there. And they used to vex me. To borrow one from Elvis Costello now: "I used to be disgusted, now I'm just amused."

Helps my mental health.

USAF "radar tech weenie?" Oh, Christina... you cut me to my radar-tech core. ;-)

That said, the loud ones are fakes... ALWAYS.

BUCK!!! As soon as he said what his job was in the AF, I thought of you! But YOU could never be called a weenie!

And you are self-confident and secure enough not to feel the need to make shit up. You have no need to. :)

So that was the tremor we felt.

You're SO kind, Christina. And I love it. ;-)
