I was a bit perplexed...

when the young client told me not to touch her feet because of her painful bunions. I mean, she was only in her twenties, who has issues like that at that age?

Then she shared with me the fact that she works three jobs:

1. School teacher
2. Cocktail waitress
3.Track and field coach

Okay,  makes way more sense now. But, damn! I feel sorry for her, she's in constant pain and there's not much she can do about it.

Also, foot massages are the bomb and she's totally missing out. Just sayin'.

maddmedic, you are truly missing out. Unless you are ticklish, of course.

Oh, poor Mike! I'm sorry. :(

I don't have bunions but I don't want anyone touching my feet which are ticklish. Still, there's always an MT who wants to exhibit their non-tickling technique. No. Thank. You.

My feet are not ticklish. I do not have bunions. My feet are in some not inconsequential pain a lot of the time. I had them wrapped a couple years back for a bad case of Plantars Faschitis. I had to refrain from punching the person who wrapped my feet not one or two but at least a dozen times. No foot massage would do anything but annoy me and piss me off. I can completely understand your waitresses' concerns.

'Drea, that's incredibly short-sighted and counterproductive of your MT. If you can't relax during the massage, for whatever reason, the therapist is wasting his or her time. So what's the point? If my client specifies not to address a certain area, it's MY job to respect the client's wishes. Period.

I'm sorry, Og. I had plantar fasciitis a few years ago when I was a nurse's aide, and OMG, it was painful. You have my sympathy, and I can totally understand not wanting anyone to mess with your feet.

That strikes me as odd. MY WIFE has a big old bunion on one foot, and she absolutely LOVES it if I give that foot a massage :-)
