Heh, it has its downsides. I was 10 (I think?) when I recall my dad having a conversation with someone that went:
Person: did you heah about the fiah? dad: the what?? Person: the Fiah! dad: I still don't understand what you're saying. me: the FIRE dad, like a fire hydrant??
my parents were born/raised in the mid-west, I was expressly forbidden to drop my R's as a child....

By the same token, something could be "wicked retahded". "Wicked" is just New England for "Very".
