Okay...?

Could somebody explain to me the ridiculous overabundance of Dunkin Donuts stores in Massachusetts? I swear to God, there's one on every corner! I also saw many stores in neighboring states, but Mass is reaching DD critical mass!

In my town, there's even one spot with two DD stores right across the street from one another. You know, so they get you coming and going.

And this is a problem?
(Fortunately, for me, I live in AZ. fewer per capita)

Seriously, I think the company originated there.

It's the coffee. I think they mix in heroine.

And the powdered donuts are dusted with cocaine cut with confectioner's sugar.

Boston is the only place I've been given driving directions that used Duncan Donut stores as the majority of navaids/landmarks.

My favorite is when they have Dunkin Donuts next to a Baskin- Robbins; that's just wrong...

Dunkie's originated in Quincy MA I think. And what with the rush hour traffic around and in Boston, you do NOT want to have to bang a left - twice - to get coffee. Finally, just wait till it's five degrees outside and dark and wintery and awful; coffee is lifeblood!!!

As Lissa said, they originated here. The very interesting backstory is that there used to be a competitor called Mister Donut, and both of the companies were owned by brothers who did not particularly care for each other. When the dust settled on their competition, DD had bought out all of the MD stores. That may have accounted for some of the overabundance. Also, when Krispy Kreme tried an incursion into the Northeast, DD fought back hard. KK is no longer in the state, but all of the DD stores are still going, more or less.

Slight correction to the above: Not brothers, but brothers-in-law. THAT explains it much more!

Dunkin Donuts in the northeast is the Waffle House of the south.

I have to admit, their coffee is pretty darn good. Better than the bitter swill sold by Starbucks!
