Sad...

We had a fire the other day here at the trailer park. Just around the corner from us, a few houses away. Thankfully, the prevailing wind was blowing away from us, and the response from the fire department was prompt. (Heck, not just our little fire department, either: we had crews here from several nearby towns!)

Unfortunately, the trailer was completely destroyed, as were the two vehicles of the folks who lived there. I feel very sad for them, yet thankful that no one was hurt.

Here's the damage:

But I was reminded today that there's beauty here, too...

Glad no one was hurt... Property can be replaced, people not so much. Good fire department if they saved that much!

oh my....

glad no one was hurt.

Noting the second pic and the propane tank not far behind trailer it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

Wow, that is sad.

Trailer park fires are much like redneck divorces: somebody's going to lose a trailer.

When they catch fire, they're usually a total loss.

AD nailed it: when a trailer lights up, it's done. Period. Most fire departments won't even attempt an interior attack unless there's known to be victims inside.

They're made of pressboard and plastic, with heavy insulation on the roof that keeps the heat in and speeds things up. The floor burns out and the fire spreads sideways in a heartbeat.

We had one burn in these parts last week. From the first call, we had a trooper on scene in six minutes. He reported it as "already on the ground".

Six minutes.

The fires this year have been bad with the high winds and dry season. Losing a home is especially sad.

Trailer fires are horrific to watch. I'm glad no-one was hurt.

And yes, those are pretty flowers.

What the others said about no casualties... that's a great good thing.

The trailer next door to me went up several years ago and I was sweating BULLETS... think "exploding propane tanks"... but our FD was here within minutes and had the fire out most ricky-tick. Still: total loss. Rumor had it that it was arson (self-arson, maximum debt, minimum income, yadda, yadda); but I don't think that was ever proved. Still and even, I was glad to be rid of obnoxious neighbors. There were silver linings in this particular case.

Gosh, I'm glad y'all are safe. I had lunch in a place with the tv on covering the devastation of the tornados this week, and I was reminded how we take for granted the permanence of our possessions. Life is sweet and precious, and there is beauty every day, if we but seek it.
