Weirdest job...

A first for me today: got a client's leg hair stuck in the side of my finger like a splinter. It STUNG, too. It was mostly broken off, and I needed tweezers to yank it out. Too weird.

Sometimes in the middle of a massage, I'll think..."Wow, I'm getting paid to rub my hands and arms all over this naked person. That's truly bizarre..."

LOL about your mid-massage thoughts.

'Drea, after so many years of doing this, your mind wanders quite frequently, but only if the client is NOT a talker. LOL.

Would you believe that I have those very same thoughts about YOUR job? It's bizarre, even from an outsider's point of view...yet wonderful too! As far as the hair goes - that has happened to me far too many times (especially with dog fur) - usually in my foot. It is the funkiest thing to consider that a piece of hair would be so sharp as to work its way into our skin....

I enjoy your mental meanderings - keep it up. Any chance you'll be in Tucson this weekend? Family picnic you know...:-)

Shannon, thank you so much for the invitation! Unfortunately, I work on the weekends, so my days off on a weekend are few and far between (I make the most money on those days.)

Hair is weird, is all I can say. Hairstylists can get infections between their fingers (or toes, if they wear open-toed shoes) from hair clipping getting into their skin. VERY weird.

My job is bizarre in many ways, but it's very rewarding because I mostly make people feel good, which makes me happy. :)

I can't imagine what you've had to put up with...

I'm sure there's naked people, and NAKED people (shivers)

I'm still creeped out by the hair splinter.

Old NFO, everyone has some kind of crappy/weird shit to deal with in their job. At some point, anyway.

Nick, I honestly don't pay attention to that. I mainly notice if someone is CLEAN versus DIRTY. THAT makes a big difference to me.

Jennifer, it was odd/gross when it happened, but I had to move on to the next massage.

AH, now the 'penetrated by hair' discussion makes sense ...

Huh. I've never heard of that before. I had no idea hair could be that penetrating. Maybe this isn't politically correct, but since when do I give a damn? Does it vary depending upon a person's racial make-up? I would guess it might. Perhaps I'm too used to my own - and MY WIFE's - soft Western European locks.

Julie, see? It all makes sense, in a skewed GBC fashion!

Jim, he was an average white dude. He did have rather wiry body hair, but nothing out of the ordinary. I dunno, it was just one of those freak things, I guess!

Hell I'd do that to some folks for free.

ew. that's creepy about the hair, but it reminded me of something my hairdresser told me about. She used to wear sandals when doing hair (you're not supposed to, actually) and she said hair has microscopic surface detail that acts like a barb and it would work its way into her skin, especially into the calluses of her feet-- can you imagine? Ew.
